Circulating Mobile Hotspots

Stay Connected!

*This is a circulating item that can be checked out of the library. Circulating hotspots must be checked out at the Main Floor Circulation Desk upstairs. Hotspots cannot be returned in the outdoor Book Drops.   

Hotspots are available on a first come, first serve basis at the upstairs Main Floor Circulation Desk. Patrons must have a valid library card in good standing to check out a circulating mobile hotspot. Borrow one of the library's new Mobile Hotspots so you can have internet at any location! A hotspot provides patrons with internet access for phones, computers, tablets, and other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Patrons can check one out for 3 weeks, 0 renewals. The hotspot comes with an instruction manual, charging cord, and case. Please remember to fully recharge the hotspot before returning to the library. 

The continuation of this program is provided via Mobile Beacon for Nonprofits in coordination with TechSoup. The TechSoup discount was purchased with support from The Friends of the Southborough Library.


Projector

*This is a circulating item that can be checked out of the library.

*The projector must be checked out at the Main Desk. This item cannot be placed on hold or returned in the outside bin.

Do you have a formal presentation coming up or the need for a large screen for fun movie night? Have no fear!

The library now has a projector available to loan for 3 weeks, with no renewal. Lenders must sign the Projector Lending Agreement and will be responsible for replacement costs if the device is damaged. 


Circulating Puzzles

Put the Pieces Back Together!

*This is a circulating item that can be checked out of the library. Circulating puzzles are located upstairs on display near the nonfiction stacks. This item cannot be placed on hold or returned in the outside bin.

Puzzles are available to check out from the library. An ongoing community puzzle is usually in progress at the back of the main room. Help us complete it!

All puzzles are available for circulation and kept upstairs on the Main Floor of the library near the nonfiction stacks. They circulate for 3 weeks, with no renewals.

Library Telescopes

Gaze the Stars!

Circulating Telescope*This is a circulating item that can be checked out of the library. Circulating telescops must be checked out and returned at the Main Floor Circulation Desk upstairs. Telescopes cannot be retured in the outside bin.

This compact and easy-to-use telescope can be borrowed from the library just as you would a book or a movie.


The library has circulating telescopes. Each telescope circulates for 3 weeks with no renewals. They are not reservable, but available on a firstcome, first-served basis.


Part of the Adopt-A-Library Telescope initiative from the Aldrich Astonomical Society. One was funded by the Southborough Cultural Arts Council with help from The Friends of the Southborough Library, while the other was donated by MathWorks in Natick

Activity Kit Backpacks

Bring home activities for kids!

Bring home your very own activity kit backpack! You will find an array of backpacks filled with activities in the downstairs Children's Room which can be checked out using your library card and brought home for hours of fun together. 

Each backpack has a theme, including indoor fun, farm animals, cats, dogs, the human body and more. You will find different items inside, such as books, puppets, stuffed animals, toys and games.

Gardening Kits

Why Buy When You Can Borrow?

Library Gardening KitIf you are looking for some special tools to help your garden flourish, look no further! You can now borrow a gardening kit from the Southborough Library. These helpful kits include a Soil pH Meter, 2 trowels, a mini rake, a small seat, clippers, as well as garden gloves.  

The gardening kits can be checked out and brought home for 3 weeks, no renewals. Visit our Main Floor Circulation Desk upstairs to ask about borrowing this item.

These garden kits were made possible by a grant from the Library Services & Technology Act distributed by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Circulating Ukuleles

Make Some Music!

*This is a circulating item that can be checked out of the library. Circulating ukuleles must be checked out in the Teen Room downstairs. This item cannot be placed on hold or returned in the outside bin.

ukuleleUkuleles are now available for checkout! It is always a great time to try something new and this fun and easy-to-learn instrument will not disappoint. Simply stop by the Southborough Library to borrow this brand new and charming instrument.

Most popular songs can be easily adapted for the ukulele. Its small size makes this a great choice for for adults and children alike. This is also great opportunity if you looking for a laid-back, approachable instrument and up for learning something new or want to continue to practice.

The box comes with a ukulele, a bag, and tuner. They can be borrowed for 3 weeks, no renewals.

Chess Sets

Get gaming!

*This is a circulating item that can be checked out of the library. Circulating chess sets must be checked out in the Teen Room downstairs. This item cannot be placed on hold or returned in the outside bin.

Did you know chess is a great way to bring people together, teaches discipline, helps people to learn how to win and lose, develops problem-solving skills and can help you focus? The Southborough Library is a great place to learn something new and have the chance to be part of a community at the same time!

We invite patrons who are beginners just learning this fun game and advanced players looking to fine tune their skills to use our circulating chess sets that include a timer. The chess sets are now available for check out and use in the Southborough library which you can find downstairs in the Teen Room.  

The set includes a fabric board and pieces. We also provide instructions for how to play if you are new to chess or would like to reference the rules while playing.

Board Games

Ready, Set, Game!

*This is a circulating item that can be checked out of the library. Circulating board games must be checked out and returned at the Main Floor Circulation Desk upstairs, the Teen Room, or the Children's Room. Circulating board games are located downstairs outside the Teen Room near the Eaton Room. These items cannot be placed on hold or returned in the outside bin.

The Southborough Library has a new set of activties available for patrons: board games! You don't have to win to have fun with friends or family, it is all about enjoying each other's company in a welcoming community.

Patrons can check out a game from our selection of board games to borrow and play here at the library. You can search out catalog and find the board games in our Teen Room downstairs. Board game options include:

  •      Bacon-opoly
  •      Candyland
  •      Labyrinth and more!

Portable Recharging Station

*This is circulating item that is in-library use only.

The Southborough Library is pleased to support our patrons whether it is with our collection of books, online resources or if you find your device needs to be charged while you are at the library. Patrons can now recharge Android and Apple devices using odevice charging stationur portable recharging stations which are located upstairs by the Main Circulation Desk.

First, make sure to check out the portable charger at the circulation desk like you would check out other library materials. You can then charge your device by sliding the black tab at the bottom using your thumb (see blue writing "Pull From Here" for Type-C and on the opposite side for iPhone). You can pull the appropriate cord from there to plug into your device.

Energy Use Meter

Available for Checkout

*This is a circulating item that can be checked out of the library. Circulating chess sets must be checked out in the Teen Room downstairs. This item cannot be placed on hold or returned in the outside binEnergy Usage Meter - Kill A Watt®

You can measure the electrical usage of your household appliances with the Kill-a-Watt kit from National Grid.

How it works: Connect the meter to an outlet, then plug a device or appliance into the meter. The meter's screen will display how much electricity the device or appliance is using. Try it out on your TV, stereo, computer and other electronics.

There's also a booklet with the kit that includes energy conservation tips and information about energy savings rebates and program available through National Grid and Mass SaveBrowse our catalog to check availability.
