While I was in Chicago over Christmas, I took some time to visit the Chicago Public Library. The Library is beautiful – it has nine floors, its own train stop (!) and those windows at the top of the building – the public’s reading room. What a view… I was inspired! – jc

The annual Friends Book Sale on Heritage Day, this Monday, October 10, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. promises books of all types at very reasonable prices. This year, the teen have taken over the cookie sale. If you are baking cookies, please try to have them delivered to the Library by Saturday at 5:00 p.m., so they can be sorted and marked up for Monday. Local authors will be at the Library on Monday, selling their works, with parts of the proceeds to benefit the Library.
Book and cookie sales are a great source of funding for the Friends of the Library who help supplement programs for people of all ages, author visits, craft nights, and our robust museum pass program. See you on Heritage Day!
The Library celebrates 100 years at 25 Main Street in Southborough this year and the Friends of the Library are holding a contest! Here’s how it works:

Ages 8-13: write an essay you’ve written or a photo you’ve taken of “what the library means to me”
Ages 14-18: write an essay, take a photo, or make a video about “what the library means to Southborough”
Winners will be selected from each age group and announced at the Library’s Centennial Open House in September.
Entries must be received at the library by July 15, 2011.
